CLIL in Slovenia
- presentation of our country, local community and school to guests,
- 5 CLIL lessons (3 in class 7 and 2 in class 9),
- 1 English lesson ( in class 6),
- 1 sports lesson (class 7 - 9),
- a meeting with school Erasmus+ team to discuss the managing of the project,
- cultural and historical exploration of the region;
Before the activity students that participate in extra curricular activity "Citizenship Education" explored Estonia and they prepared a presentation that they exhibited in Erasmus+ corner at our school. Guests from Estonia were greeted at school by the headteacher and student council representatives. Student council representatives from classes 6 to 9 together with 2 additional students from each class, headteacher and Erasmus+ team met with the guests. Students presented our country, local community and our school. Students prepared the presentations and gave presentations themselves. The guests presented their country, their local community and their school. Students and staff learned about similarities and differences between the two countries, the local communities and schools.
Guests took part in CLIL lessons. On Thursday they participated in CLIL lessons in class 7. Students were learning tree and bush species and about animals that live on the forest floor. Prior to this lesson they had no knowledge on the subject in the English language. During the lessons they learned vocabulary for naming tree parts and tree species as well as they listened to a story about animals living in the forest.
On Friday guests participated in CLIL lesson in class 9. The first part of the lesson was revision of cells and cell organelles. After that students learned the English vocabulary for naming cell organelles. Afterwards they did a reading comprehension exercise in which they matched cell organelles and their functions. At the end of the lesson they observed an animal cell under the microscope.
Together with the assistant headteacher and an English teacher the guests visited all classes in our school and kindergarten. They were able to see the material conditions our children and staff work in as well as the daily activities they engage in.
On the next day the guests explored the local area with teachers from our school. They were able to experience life in a Slovenian home, see an underground cave and appreciate art in the local area.
